Application Details:
The Simons Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University provides an opportunity for high school students to immerse themselves in cutting-edge scientific research. Funded by the Simons Foundation, this program is designed to cultivate students' interests in STEM. Throughout the summer, participants engage in hands-on research projects under the mentorship of Stony Brook faculty members across various disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and engineering. The program not only offers exposure to advanced research methodologies but also includes seminars, workshops, and networking events that enhance students' understanding of the scientific process.

What to expect:

Applicants must currently be in 11th grade at the time of applying

Applicants must be US citizens and/or permanent residents

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age by the start of the program
Simons Fellows are matched with Stony Brook faculty mentors based on their top three choices of preferred areas of research interest on the online application. The Fellows then join a research group and begin their project. The Simons Fellows end the program by producing a written research abstract and a research poster. Simons Fellows will learn valuable research techniques and experience what life at a university is like as they spend time on campus. Fellows will also attend weekly research talks and workshops, tours, and events. At the concluding poster ceremony, students will be presented with a stipend.
