Overview:

The Center for Excellence in Youth Education (CEYE) offers an engaging Intro to Bioinformatics program designed to introduce students to the fascinating intersection of biology and computational science. Through hands-on activities and interactive lessons, participants explore the fundamental concepts of bioinformatics, including DNA sequencing, genomic analysis, and protein structure prediction. Guided by experienced instructors and supported by cutting-edge technology, students gain practical skills in data analysis, programming, and bioinformatics tools. The program not only equips students with a deeper understanding of the molecular foundations of life but also fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities essential for success in the rapidly evolving field of biotechnology.

Application Details:
  • Application is open from January 1 to March 3, 2024

  • Course is offered online through zoom and google classroom

  • Program date is July 1-August 9, 2024

Application Requirements:
  • Full attendance for the 6 week program. This includes three in person events

  • Both oral and written progress reports

  • Must attend a NYC public school or charter school

  • Applicant is from an underrepresented community

What to Expect:

This online program will teach students the basics of biology, computer programming, and genomic science. The program will finish with each student creating projects displaying their genomic data of Bioinformatics. Students will attend virtual meetings with interactive learning and will have access to all of the resources in the Levy Library Network.
